Hello all groups,
Here is the task for your group discussion and work:
Some examples of development of science and technology are as follows:
a) Biotechnology eg yogurt making, antibotics, GM food and development of new medicines
b) Biomedical development eg. organ transplant
c) Development of nuclear energy
d) Telecommunications
e) Creation of new materials
f) Nanotechnology
Good news! I will let the groups pick the topic based on their area of interest but since there are 5 groups per class and there are 5 topics, no two groups in each class should work on the same topic. So it's on a first come first serve basis. So start working quickly and indicate your group and the topic chosen as soon as possible.
After you have decided on the topic, individually read up more about the topic and you should discuss online.
End product:
Either a powerpoint presentation or a flow-chart.
You must include the following points:
1. What is the one example of development in science and tecnhnology that man brings about?
2. Give a description of this development in less than 200 words. In your description, explain how man has altered the living and non-living factors in the ecosystem to bring about this development.
3. How does this benefit man and the community?
4. In the long run, what are some of the positive and/or negative impacts of this on the environment and the ecosytem?
Some essential guiding questions:
Why should man bear responsibility towards the environment from which he draws his resources?
Is technology good or bad in itself?
